  2. Domaine Ansen Riesling (Geierstein Single Vineyard)

The hillside vineyards dried down quickly after winter rains. Cool to moderate weather created a long growing season. Low yields were crucial for achieving maximum flavor and aroma development. The soil looks yellow because of the limestone underneath (Muschelkalk). It's a bone dry and delicately perfumed wine. The limestone will contribute to the wine outstanding ageing potential.

Kühling-Gillot’s 2011 Oppenheimer Riesling trocken offers scents and flavors of mirabelle enlivened by fresh lemon; pumpkin and winter squash; nut oils; and accented by struck flint and crushed stone. Satin-textured; and full without being heavy, it finishes with satisfying juiciness and a welcome impression of transparency to mineral nuances.

  9. Kühling-Gillot - Ölberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs

Hints of bacon, marrow and musky, smoky black tea, bittersweet iris and narcissus perfume intriguingly and alluringly augment tangerine and ripe peach on the nose and silken, lusciously-juicy palate. A mouthwateringly savory impression of veal stock mingled with the fruit puts me in mind of a red Burgundy.

  10. Domaine Ansen Riesling (Lerchensand Single Vineyard)

Lerchensand is a southward hillside vineyard. This narrow and low hill is covered with small vine fields. High amounts of clay contribute to the dark colour of the ground and low fertility. The underground belongs to the Keuper marl of the Trias period. 210 millions years ago, an ancient sea evaporated, leaving salt and clay. The combination of high amounts of magnesium, the storage of warmth and the incredibly long vegetation period is what makes it possible in the first place to produce such outstanding whites with crisp acidity.
